I was very excited to see that Seagate was releasing this product because it is such a great idea. The problem with it is that it can be inconvenient to move media onto the device. The hard drive needs to be removed from the device and then placed in a dock (which connects to your computer in TWO USB ports, which I wasn’t happy to see.) Then, once the media is transferred through the FreeAgent software to the hard drive, the hard drive is placed back in the device for viewing on the TV.
For me, this process is not worth the hassle just to have media on a TV instead of a computer. If it transferred the files wirelessly, it would be a far better product. There were also some compatibility issues with file types, so it wasn’t even a guarantee that after all this work it would even play.
One thing I liked about it was the option of plugging a USB flash drive into the device instead of using the hard drive. This, to me, is a much better idea than the hard drive itself. I also liked the included remote, that made things much easier as well.
Overall, I would recommend this product because it does its job. It just wasn’t worth the trade-off for me personally.

This is a great player with high def and HDMI capabilities. This player does have a few downsides though. For one the remote is tiny and easy to lose. When you try to scroll through your downloaded media titles, the player tries to play the feature in like a picture in picture mode and it really slows you down when trying to select what you want. The seagate docking station for your computer takes up two USB ports, so for those who have few ports that sucks. However they do have a docking station you can buy seperatly that runs off of a wall plug and usb port with three additional usb ports on the docking station. The Seagate software download for your computer is not supported for a 64 bit operating system. You have to go to seagate technical support and download a zip file that contains a usable format.
The upsides is it will play nearly everything and has a very good picture quality. Using the Seagate hard drive is very easy also once you get it all set up. All in all a good buy if you have the patience to set it up properly, it took me about two hours in between hook up and dealing with Seagate technical support for my windows 7 64 bit system.

This is a product for highly qualified installers. A senior citizen like myself is left having to get expert advice due to the poor quality of the instructions. They should be as simple as possible not assume extensive familiarity with the media. Also, if you enable HDMI sell the unit with the cable. Charge extra but don’t confuse the issue.
