I have a vast collection of rmvb movies and TV series, and for my purpose , this small device seems a dream come true! Watch my movies in Sony Bravia with remote control is a wish for many years since the invention of the Real Media player.
I have been enjoying the movies every night since I got this perfect device. Highly recommended for people just like me!

I got this for Christmas from my Mom, who saw it on my Amazon Wishlist. I have the Phillips 5990 DVD player at home for USB support, so this was for me to use in my room or to take on the road when I travel or to work when I have video drafts to show. The size is even smaller than I was expecting–it can easily fit in my purse–and it was total plug and play, and the quality is fantastic on SD. I highly recommend this for travelers who want to be able to take video with them and watch it on actual TVs, not just the laptop!

$20.00 cheaper then WDTV but lose most of the main feature of to being a real media player, if you really need something for the RMVB, I will suggest you buy the MediaGate’s M2TV, it is almost the same price with WDTV but it play 1080p + RMVB + dts2.0 Support.

I have hundreds of AVI files and MP4’s. The device would only play a handful of the AVI’s and none of the MP4’s. I could not figure out why it would only play the few AVI’s that it did. I think it has to do with the Codecs that were used when the AVI files were downloaded. There were no answers on Western Digitals website and the device does not come with any sort of conversion software. Most of the reviews below, seem to indicate that they did not have problems playing AVI files, so this is a mystery to me. Therefore , I returned it.
On the good side, I used a Hitachi hard drive and it had no trouble reading it. So you definitely do not need to use a Western Digital hard drive.
Also my TV is almost 8 years old, and it did work with this device – (i.e. even though it only played a handful of AVI’s)

The sale and delivery of this product wre fine, but I can’t recommend the product unless you’re willing to spend time converting formats to try to get something to play. I ordered six for media displays in a museum and two are working without any problem, two are working with some difficulty (converted formats and got them working, but the first two played the original format), and two power up but so far haven’t played anything. I’m still testing different media formats and output, so I can’t say these last two do not work at all.
